In the context of emerging technologies and increased consumer awareness, device interoperability and portability is becoming one of the most important features in today’s market. A study based on the level of interoperability as defined in the SGAM for commercially available smart meters is conducted in this paper. The findings focus on available information for the communication layer of smart meters and propose a set of interoperability levels based on communication performances and dynamic behaviour.
